After a quiet period of trading and decreased footfall throughout 2020, the Leigh-on-Sea Partnership identified signage and wayfinding improvements as a key initiative in bouncing back from the COVID restrictions of the last 12 months. They successfully approached Southend-on-Sea Borough Council for funding, who subsequently appointed Fitzpatrick Woolmer through their principal contractors Eurovia Infrastructure to undertake the works.
Following the successful installation of similar signage in Southend, the specification included our dCipher™ wayfinding monolith and contemporary fingerposts. All signs were supplied in a brushed stainless steel finish to combat the effects of a coastal location and complement the urban landscape.
n-Viro™ printed trays faithfully reproduced the beautiful map illustrated by local artist Joanne Holbrook, providing lightfast and graffiti resistant graphics to aid visitor orientation. Directional information was permanently etched into the slats and finger arms, ensuring it will never peel or delaminate in the exposed location.
To further embrace the coastal theme, sandblasted granite slabs adorned with a clam shell motif completed the base of the monolith displays. A total of 5 dCipher™ wayfinding monoliths and 8 contemporary fingerposts were installed to create a connected wayfinding scheme, guiding locals and visitors to key attractions and facilities throughout the town.
