Approached from a tree-lined avenue, New Hall School in Essex is famed for its spectacular architecture and beautiful grounds. The Grade I listed building once belonged to Henry VIII who enlarged the estate and named it Beaulieu, meaning beautiful place. Today it accommodates day and boarding students from ages 3 to 18.
The rebranding of New Hall School led to a site wide signage makeover. Our client was looking for refined, high quality signs that followed the new brand guidelines and were in- keeping with the school’s high standards. We assisted by creating a suite of unified signage that promoted the new identity and complemented the school’s pristine grounds.
Our approach
Listed buildings like New Hall School find it difficult to obtain planning permission because they are situated on protected, historical grounds. To help New Hall School overcome this issue, we fixed sockets to the base of a recycled plastic planter and secured a small ladder sign inside it. The planter, which could be filled with gravel, or soil to create a flower bed, can be positioned anywhere within the school without disrupting the historic grounds.
We manufactured sets of large stand-off letters to help visitors identify the fitness suite, swimming pool and several of the boarding houses. The aluminium letters, which were cut using a CNC router, enable visitors to comfortably read the name of the buildings from a fair distance.
Many of New Hall School’s signs were finished with our hard wearing DuoGuard™ coating, which is flameproof, graffiti-resistant and UV resilient. It also prevents the peeling of letters, minimising the effects of vandalism and maintaining long term presentation and quality.
As part of New Hall School’s signage scheme, we also produced durable aluminium fingerposts, plaque signs, badging signs and ladder signs to help students and visitors navigate their way around the estate with ease.
